Hey guys,

Just a quick poll and discussion about pre-orders.

What are your thoughts about pre-ordering games in general and one of FPG's games specifically.

Is this something we should consider?
How far away from the release date would be too far for you to pre-order?

Vote in the poll and post your thoughts.

Hmm, I'd consider it. I normally like to see what I'm buying, but I thoroughly enjoyed your last game. I would like to know it was very close to release first though = a certain expansion has made me a little nervous about promises that never eventuate.

FPG was riding on a fair bit of goodwill that would probably see a couple of dozen preorders at least (depending on price, and approx. time to release though). However the empty echoes of these forums may indicate a fading of that goodwill.

Convincing us that numerous preorders would speed up development would get you a few more orders though!

Offering the preorders is certainly worth a try. Especially if you offer some sort of long lasting in-game bonus that will advertise to other players that "I was here even before the beginning". A special small facial tattoo for all our toons for instance, or a subtle glow to our weapons etc.

I agree with Wallaby. I'd love to have some cool feature or bonus, but I'd probably be up for preordering anyway.

I probably would, but you would need to show me a beta or at least some in-game video / screen shots.

Id be happy to pre-order if I was sure the game was being released soon and maybe some youtube vids of the games development in progress were aviailable.

For me, it would depend on what exactly a preorder entails.

If a preorder means "We will bill you now, and you will get the game when it is done," then I probably would not preorder, unless there was some VERY compelling reason for doing so (e.g., a deep discount, or a complete refund if the game was not finished by a certain date).

If a preorder means "We will take your billing information now, and then as soon as the game is released we will bill you," then I would probably preorder.

By the way, the poll associated with this thread doesn't work for me. When I try to vote, I get the message, "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again." I am logged in and did not vote previously. I am using Mac OS 10.6.4 and Safari 5.0.

Adding to my previous comment, I feel it is a question that should remain open.

Pre-ordering can be good it just depends on what you like - how well you know the company and if they have released any other games.

Some examples of My pre-ordering online.

wolfire Games - 80 weeks and counting.
unknownworlds - 10 weeks and counting.
thefoolandhismoney - HUH! like over 3 years now lol.

And many others and in all cases I have recieved the game at the end with no problems even if the money is handed over up front.

Thanks for the feedback guys :)

I still can't figure out why the poll stopped working.
Everything looks the way it should be.

Okey Doke .. after digging some more I think I found the issue with the polls. Was a missing statement in the theme that was required after an update to the forum.

Give it a shot and let me know if there are still problems.

I would definitely be interested in pre-ordering. However, as it has been said i would like to see what I'm buying first.
