A Montessori Valentine from Flowerpot Games

Mobile Montessori is on sale for $2.99 (the sale ended on the 19th. Sorry if you missed it). Happy Valentines Day from Flowerpot Games. With the sale we are releasing version 1.0.3 of Mobile Montessori. This new version has some welcome improvements thanks to comments from some Mobile Montessori users. Let’s review some of the user comments and what changed…

Comments

Our first comment comes from Maddy on Jan. 30 who writes,

Deleted immediately! Broad stairs w/7 blocks? Might be ok for very small child (18 mo-3yo), but you can not label the current version “montessori”!

Ouch Maddy, that hurt! But you have a valid point. The Brown Stair activity traditionally uses 10 blocks. The reason we only included 7, was, well, the screen on the Android Smart Phone is so small we were concerned that the smallest blocks would be too difficult to manipulate properly. Thanks to Maddy, we decided to add all 10 blocks to the activity. Additionally we changed the color and size of the blocks to more closely match the design of the original activity.

Our second comment comes from Frogboy on Feb. 3 who writes,

Good, easy to play game for a very young child. I hope they add the math tile game. I think that would translate well to a touchscreen.

Thanks Frogboy! Our original goal was to make it easy to play. And you’ll be happy to know that we are working on a Math Card activity at this very moment. It will be available in Mobile Montessori soon.

Our third comment comes from jenni on Feb. 13 who writes,

Disapointing app. Broad stair and tower should have 10 blocks if its montessori. Creator should brush up on there methodology nd try again. Deleted!

Ouch and Ouch! I’m glad we have lots of Bactine in the house. We talked about the Brown Stair activity already, but we had the same concern with the Tower activity. Spurred by jenni we decided to enable the other 5 blocks in the Tower activity and, not only that, we colored the blocks pink like the original Pink Tower activity. We hope you like it.

Tiffany emails us (as I’m writing this blog post) and says,

Please make 10 blocks instead of 7th for a true, consistent montessori experience.

You got it Tiffany! Done! Let’s keep the dialog going and let us know what else you would like to see in Mobile Montessori.

The last comment, and one of the most important ones, comes from my 5 year old daughter Lucia who said,

But Daddy the blocks don’t go together!

Lucia noticed that she can position many of the blocks slightly off the screen. This caused some problems with getting blocks aligned properly. To solve this problem I reprogrammed the so-called ‘boundary clipping’ routine to prevent blocks from being moved off the screen. Lucia seems happy with the change.

But that’s not all of the changes.

We also added Google Analytics to Mobile Montessori. Google Analytics allows us to see how Mobile Montessori is used and helps us to make Mobile Montessori into a better application. Google Analytics records non-identifiable information, such as how frequently an activity is played and for how long. It also helps us track down bugs. Rest assured that there is no snooping of your personal data, there is no way for us to know who is using Mobile Montessori. But if you are still concerned you can disable the collection of Analytics by launching Mobile Montessori and pressing MENU->Options and remove the check-mark from the ‘Send Analytics’ option.

You can now disable the sound effects. The sound effects in Mobile Montessori are meant to be unobtrusive. But you can now disable the sounds from the same Options menu.

Our Japanese speaking customers will be happy to know that we added a Japanese translation to Mobile Montessori. Thanks to Dorje’s wife!

We really appreciate the comments and your suggestions, so keep them coming. Your comments will help us make Mobile Montessori into your Montessori app of choice. Please tell your friends and family about Mobile Montessori and help support the addition of new educational and fun activities by purchasing the premium version of Mobile Montessori. Did I mention it’s on sale? It’s 50% off! Get it now!
