TWS – Graphics

I drink this a lot
Graphics! The visual representation your computer creates of the make-believe world inside of its processors.
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, most serious gamers like myself consider the graphics card on an equal basis with some of the core tech specs on our computers, for me it is as important as processor speed, ram and FSB. We all know a bigger, better card will produce smoother, faster, and higher res gaming experiences. These days, as the hardware is ever improving, the minimum specs on programs continues to rise. This can often lead a gamer to frustration, and more often then not, the purchase of an upgrade to the old graphics card. (A pestilence upon those pesky developers forcing us to upgrade!)
We have a little bit if a different take on it here at FPG. We want Shadows of Nightside to be as scalable as we can possibly make it.
For those that want a high res gaming environment and have the hardware to pull it off, SoN will deliver. For those that don’t have the latest technology and don’t want to spend the money for new hardware, the engine will be able to scale back the nonessential elements to make things a bit easier on your machine and speed up gameplay. For those of you still gaming on your Commadores… Well, just keep doing your thing, but you may want to consider donating it to a museum.
I’m sure you are all wondering what the hard numbers are going to be, and unfortunately at this point I can’t say, as the engine is still in development. Do, however, post up any graphics related questions, and I will get good friend Fish over here to answer any my lack of tech-ability won’t let me
As a parting thought let’s have a little survey: What graphics card do you currently use? Post it up!
Live long and prosper,
-S

Using a GeForce 8600M GT on my Mac

I have two cards that I test against:
A mid-range GeForce 7900GS and a low-end Radeon X300.
The X300, due to its age and shoddy OpenGL support is proving to be a challenge to keep happy.
If anyone has a high-end card (PCI-E) they would be willing to loan for testing please drop me a line.
…and no, I will not donate my C64 to a museum, thank you very much. Same goes for my TRS80 CoCo.
